People volunteer for a charity’s Board for a variety of personal reasons, but ultimately because they want to make a difference in the community. They come from all different walks of life, having gained business and other experience along the way, but the specific duties of a Board seat are significant responsibilities that typically go beyond people’s normal scope of training. Directors are ultimately responsible for all performance, financial, legal and ethical aspects of the management of a charity and its fundraising programs.

Our experience is that the success of a fundraising campaign, and ultimately of the performance of a charity, is dependent to a large degree on the ability of the board. How Board members function individually and as a team can make or break a fundraising campaign.
